You remember the MTV show Pimp my ride, well I really wanted to pimp my Macbook, so I visit with Eric Gonzalez of the Urbanists Collective, an alliance of independent street artists.  Eric has been creating street art or graffiti for a couple decades now, and I love his work.  He’s always down to do small projects and big ones too, like murals for city, and painting small pieces like my Macbook.  He’s generous with his time and art and he’s one of the coolest people I know.

When I visited him at the Lumberyard he was setting up for this year’s Taste the Arts Visalia on October 17th from 12pm-6pm.  Taste of the Arts is a festival that celebrates art in all forms from music, visual, and performance.  It’s free to everyone and there are classes and clinics all day, so you too can learn to make art.  So get out there and be inspired.

About The Author
- Born in the Philippines, raised in New Jersey, and living in Visalia. I'm a fan of people and the culture they create. I arrived here from Los Angeles in 2006 teary eyed from the "smell of money" (a.k.a. cow poop) and what I thought was a lack of "things to do".I met some wonderful friends along the way that helped guide me through our close knit communities to discover a growing art culture, a love for fine food, great music, and community. It's time we share this richness with each other and the rest of the world - this is Joaquin Around.Do you have recommendations, or content to share, contact us here on the site or email me directly at
